Roman Chamomile has a softer aroma but is used much in the same way as German Chamomile, although German Chamomile has a stronger topical anti-inflammatory activity. Roman Chamomile is considered one of the most gentle essential oils and (along with Mandarin and Lavender) is especially suited for use with children to soothe mind, body and skin issues.
Nature/Essence – Soothing & Calming
Roman Chamomile soothes, calms and aids healing of irritated skin including eczema, acne, psoriasis, rashes and wounds. It is also very popular in skincare formulations to nurture dry and reactive skin, and is ideal in nappy rash creams or ointments.
The calming effects of Roman Chamomile work wonderfully in a massage oil applied to the abdomen for menstrual and digestive discomfort, cramps, colic or bloating. It has traditionally been used to support the female system during menstruation and menopause. It is also used for muscle and joint aches, teething, neuralgia, and tension headaches especially associated with stress.
The soothing qualities of Roman Chamomile also extend to the mind, ideal for nervous tension, irritability and restlessness. It helps calm the nerves and promote restful sleep, and is suggested for those with an ‘over-sensitive’ nature. A wonderful oil to calm children upset by nightmares, teething, tantrums, colic or just overexcitement.
