Mica Colours or Pearlescent Pigments are formed from microscopic flakes of mica (a naturally occurring crystal) which are coated with metal oxides, such as Iron oxide, Tin Oxide and Titanium oxide. By using different metal oxides and adjusting the thickness of the coated layer, numerous colours can be created with varying pearlescent effects.
PARTICLE SIZE vs COLOUR EFFECT
Particle Size 15 µm or less = low luster, good hiding power
Particle Size 2-25 µm = silky luster and strong hiding powder
Particle Size 10-60 µm = pearl luster with medium hiding power
Particle Size 10-125 µm = shimmering luster and low hiding power
Particle Size 20-150 µm = sparkling luster and transparent
Pearlescent pigments are easily blended to make new colours. Add black to darken and white to lighten or blend colours together to make new shades in any combination you choose.
