Description

Formerly Calcium Bentonite Clay

New Zealand Glacial Clay is a high purity Bentonite Clay that has been processed to ensure very low levels of impurities and grit. The clay is sourced from Canterbury.

This unique deposit of New Zealand nontronite was formed through the combination of ancient volcanic ash and fresh glacial water at the foothills of the Southern Alps over three million years ago. Due to the nature of the volcanic ash and the fresh glacial water environment, it also contains other healing clays such as kaolinite, illite and montmorillinite.

Bentonite Clay is composed of aged volcanic ash. It is unique in that it has the ability to produce an “electrical charge” when hydrated. When mixed with water, its electrical components change, allowing it to absorb toxins. Bentonite is thus often used to detoxify toxins, heavy metals, chemicals and other impurities from the skin and body.

Processing

The excavated raw clay has approx 30% moisture content. It is mixed mechanically to ensure uniformity into 10mm noodles to ensure even drying. It is dried to 180 degrees celsius on a fluid bed drier for 30 mins. From there the material is crushed and then milled (via roller mill) to a mean particle size of 45 microns (99% passing through a 325 mesh).

Use

High purity bentonites are used in cosmetic preparations as pigment binders and suspending agents. They are also used as thickeners in lotions, creams, liquid facial cleansers, anti-dandruff shampoos, body powders, deodorant sprays, deodorant sticks, etc.

  • Skin irritation: Apply a paste of bentonite clay to blemishes, insect bites, cuts, skin itching, or burns. Leave to dry and wash off. May help to calm itching on the skin etc.
  • Bites/Burns/Cuts/Stings: Make a poultice by applying a thick layer of clay to the skin and securing with wet gauze or cloth. it. Change every two hours.
  • Face Mask: Make a paste of bentonite and water and apply to my face as a mask. Leave on for 20 minutes and wash off.
  • Detox Bath: Add about 1/4 cup of Bentonite Clay to a warm bath and soak.
