Shea Nilotica, also known as East African Shea, is produced from the fruit of the Vitellaria nilotica whcih is a sub species of the Karite tree (Butyrospermum parkii). Shea Nilotica butter is softer in texture with a very mild aroma and a light yellow color and has a significantly higher content of olein, a glyceride of oleic acid, making it softer and creamier than West African Shea Butter. It is rich in unsaponifiables, antioxidants and cinneamic acid. The shea butter nuts are cold-pressed without any chemicals, and the butter is simply filtered priot to packing.
Shea Nilotica has a lower melt point and a less waxy texture than standard shea and so in warmer weather it may be in a semi-liquid state when you receive it. If this is the case, simply place it in a cool area to firm up before use.
