White willow bark has long been known as an effective anti-inflammatory. Willow bark was actually converted to aspirin in 1828 when German chemist Felix Hoffmann isolated the active ingredient and named it salicin.  Later, a modified form of the willow bark was manufactured and sold asaspirin.

As an alternative medicine, white willow bark is helpful in supporting joint health. It is also used to relieve occasional headaches, and as an all-purpose pain reliever and anti-inflammatory.
