The oil was traditionally used as a perfume which was applied to the body prior to meditation and prayer and is now used as a source of citral in China. Like the fruit, in Aromatherapy the oil is recommended for the cardiovascular system and is said to be beneficial for nervous conditions such as stress and anxiety. Topically it may be useful in the management of acne and is reputed to reduce perspiration thus making it a candidate for inclusion in deodorant formulations.
