All-Purpose Healing Balm Recipe - PureNature NZ
Balms are simple to make and great for treating minor skin irritations. Choose your essential oils according to their protective, cooling, moistening and soothing properties.
Which Essential Oils for What?
15g Yellow Beeswax
5g Shea Butter
78g liquid oils (Fractionated Coconut Oil works well, or use an infused oil such as Calendula for added healing properties)
1g Vitamin E (this prevents the oils from oxidising and therefore extends the shelf-life of the ointment)
1g (up to 25 drops) essential oils of your choice
EquipmentBowl (preferably glass or pyrex)
Saucepan that the bowl will fit on top of
Aluminium or glass pot
Method1. Place all ingredients apart from Essential Oils and Vitamin E into a double boiler and melt until liquid.
2. Remove from the heat.
3. When liquid has cooled (around 45°C), add the Essential Oils and Vitamin E. Stir thoroughly to blend.
3. Pour into your aluminium/glass pot and let set.
Done! Apply the balm sparingly to affected areas.
Note: For safety reasons, do not exceed the Essential Oil drops recommended and ensure that you study all relevant safety data on each oil.
