Description
Also known as billygoat plum, murunga and gubinge, Kakadu plum oil is sourced from the Kimberley region of Western Australia. It is commonly used as a source of food or 'bush tucker' by Australian Aboriginal people. The fruit is round and greenish, and usually eaten raw.
Kakadu Plum oil is not obtained using conventional methods such as pressing or solvent extraction. The first challenge is removing the seed from the fruit which is very labour intensive. Once the tiny seeds are removed the oil yield is very low and added to this, there is a limited supply of raw material so conventional oil extraction is not currently viable.
To overcome these challenges, the manufacturer has developed a process whereby safflower oil is used under high pressure to crack the fruit, remove the seeds and extract the oil-soluble components from the seed. This enables components from Kakadu Plum to be incorporated into anhydrous formulations.
Note: this is an oil-soluble product and so does not contain Vitamin C. Vitamin C is water-soluble and so cannot be extracted with oil. Please see Kakakdu Plum Cellular Extract for a natural source of Vitamin C to incorporate into your formulation.
