Description

A light, fast-absorbing dry oil pressed from the kernel of the Australian Sandalwood tree — rich in Omega fatty acids and traditionally valued for its conditioning, soothing qualities.

Sandalwood Seed Oil is cold-extracted from the kernel of Santalum spicatum, the same tree that gives us Australian Sandalwood essential oil — but this is a completely different product. Where the essential oil is steam-distilled from the heartwood and prized for its aroma, the seed oil is a fatty (carrier) oil pressed from the nut, with a very mild, faintly nutty scent and none of the essential oil's aromatic intensity.

We source our Sandalwood Seed Oil from Native Extracts, a Western Australian company working with native and Indigenous-grown Australian botanicals. The sandalwood tree is native to the semi-arid lands of Western Australia, and Indigenous Australians have long recognised its properties — the seed kernel was traditionally applied to sore joints, skin afflictions and burns, and the crushed kernel was used on the body for protection against harsh Outback conditions.

The oil itself is naturally rich in oleic acid (Omega-9), alpha-linolenic acid (Omega-3), palmitic acid, and ximenynic acid (also known as santalbic acid) — a fatty acid found in only a small number of plant seed oils. This fatty acid profile is what gives Sandalwood Seed Oil its light, non-greasy, quick-absorbing texture, making it a lovely addition to face oils, serums, balms and hair care formulations where you want conditioning without heaviness.

A note on claims: Sandalwood Seed Oil's traditional use is well documented, and its fatty acid composition has been independently verified through peer-reviewed literature — but as with any natural ingredient, it hasn't been the subject of clinical trials in finished cosmetic products. We'd encourage anyone formulating with it to patch test and, where specific performance claims matter, to test on the finished product.
