Description
Citric acid is a mild natural acid found in many living things, but citrus fruits are particularly rich sources, hence the name. Although found widely in nature, it is no longer extracted from natural sources for commercial purposes as it is far more efficient to manufacture it via microbial fermentation. It is a powerful ingredient for household cleaning products and is commonly used in bath bombs with Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda) to create the "fizz.”
Citric acid is also a chelating agent and can be used in shampoo to draw out minerals like chlorine from the hair. It is a great antioxidant and can be used as a mild co-preservative. It is also used to adjust (lower) the pH during manufacture and finished skincare products.
